What to Wear: Newborn Session | Carlsbad Newborn Photographer

I am excited to share this session for a couple of reasons. First, I feel that this family nailed their outfits, and second, it’s a bit of a two-parter. What do I mean by that? Well, this little one is already a big sister! I shot this session in 2021, and her baby brother just had his session in January. And guess what? They nailed their outfits for that shoot, too!

I love how mom and dad were dressed in calming colors. As you can see in the images, mom is looking gorgeous in a white, flowy dress. While white is beautiful for photos, that might not be everyone’s favorite color to wear. I suggest pastels or neutrals if that’s the case for you. Dad is in a light blue button-up shirt and khakis, and he looks great! They kept it simple, which not only made them shine but also allowed for the prints in the nursery and swaddles to shine, as well.

Now, just to be clear, I am not against prints at all. I actually love them! You just have to use them correctly. If each person in this family decided to wear a print of some kind, that would be very distracting. A good rule of thumb is if one person is in a print, everyone else should be in solid complementary colors. In this example, the baby is swaddled in a pretty, floral swaddle. The tones of the colors in the swaddle are soft which is ideal because she went well with mom and dad.

I will be sharing the next session I did with this family soon, and other sessions of other clients whose outfits I really liked photographing. Everything from leisure wear to flowing dressing and everything in between. Stay tuned!
